Take the Time to Start a Conversation

Today is R U Okay Day, and the Central Hume Communities Suicide Prevention Network is using the occasion to highlight the work it does in the local community.

Formed by a number of local organisations and services, the network’s aim is to reduce the incidence of suicide and the associated stigma.

Network Chair, Renee Murtagh, says keeping people engaged is vital.

The network is hosting a “Let’s Chat” presentation on October 10th at Wangaratta Library.

NSW Member for Albury, Greg Aplin, is also spreading the word for R U OK Day.

"It empowers people to create a connection and you just never know, you could be instrumental in saving somebody's life. It's one of those easy to ask questions, are you okay, and it opens up the conversation so I do encourage people, not only on this Thursday, but generally throughout the year. Nothing beats conversations and people taking an interest in others."

If you or a loved one is experiencing difficulties, you contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
