Wodonga Set to Welcome Queen's Baton Relay
Border and North East residents are being encouraged to attend the Queens Baton Relay as it travels through the streets of Wodonga on Thursday.
The Wodonga leg will begin at Catholic College Wodonga at 9:25am and journey through Melrose Drive before going up Brockley St with a stop at The Wodonga Senior Secondary College.
The Baton will then travel onto Beechworth Road into High Street, finishing at Junction Square for a community celebration at 10:20am.
All locals are being urged to line the streets and wave the baton on. Local schools have been busy putting together artwork to bring some flare to the event.
“This will be such an exciting day for our community as we play our part in the baton’s international journey,” Wodonga Mayor Cr Anna Speedie said.
“I encourage all our residents and businesses to get behind this historic occasion and save the date now for a morning of colour and celebration as we welcome the baton to Wodonga.”
To accommodate the Relay, the following roads will be closed during the event:
·Church St between Elgin Boulevard and Bond St from 6am to 12.30pm.
·High St between Lawrence St and South St from 8.30am to 11am.
·Silva Drive from 9am to 10am. Melrose Drive between Felltimber Creek Road/Pearce St and Brockley St from 9am to 10.15am.
·Brockley St between Melrose Drive and Beechworth Road from 9am to 10.40am.
·Elgin Boulevard between Hovell St and Smythe St from 9am to 11am.
·Beechworth Road between Wilson St and Lawrence St 9am to 10.45am. (North bound lane only).
Meanwhile, Public Buses from 8.30am to 11am will have alternative pick up points.
High St will operate from Hovell St outside the Cube Courtyard. Smythe St bus stop will operate from the opposite side of the road on Smythe St.
The High St Taxi Rank will be relocated to the Oak Car Park off Hovell St (opposite Wodonga Council).
