The man left the unit and allegedly returned a short time later with a meat cleaver, before striking a male neighbour several times. He was detained, with the assistance of neighbours, until police arrived a short time later.
Officers from Murray River Police District attended and commenced inquiries.
The male neighbour sustained lacerations to his forearms and head, and was taken to Albury Hospital for treatment, before being flown to a hospital in Melbourne for surgery.
The female neighbour sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment. The woman and her children were not physically harmed.
A 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.
He was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm DV, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic) and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The man was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today.
