Border Queues Grow

Traffic at a standstill as NSW residents return home

Motorists heading from NSW into Victoria are facing lengthy queues at the Border checkpoints this afternoon.

Traffic on the Hume Freeway had extended back to the Fallon Street overpass by 4:30pm as NSW residents rush to get back across the Border by midnight without having to enter mandatory hotel quarantine.

Murray River Police have urged patience from motorists as the queues grow.

The checkpoints instated overnight by the Andrews Government are in response to the Sydney Northern Beaches outbreak, which has seen Borders snap shut across the country.

It is not yet known how long they will be in place for. Residents of local government areas in Border regions do not need a permit, and just need to show their Driver's license. These areas include:

VIC: Alpine Valleys, Benalla, Indigo, Moira, Shepparton, Towong, Wangaratta, Wodonga.

NSW: Albury City, Federation, Greater Hume, Murray River, Wagga Wagga.
